Learn how to use the built-in editor in Firefox on your Mac or Windows PC to add text, signature, images, and highlights to a PDF file right from your browser.
The Preview app on Mac has several tools to mark up your PDFs. This includes adding text, comments, drawings, signature, and even text redaction to hide specific parts of the PDF securely.
However, if you use the Firefox browser or have set it as the default, you can edit PDFs right when you download them. While it doesn’t offer as many tools as Preview, it can be handy for basic edits.
Note: Update the Firefox browser if you don’t see the PDF Editor.
Table of Contents hideFirefox should open the PDF automatically when you try to download it from a web page like this one. But if the PDF is saved to your computer, right-click and choose Open With > Firefox.
With PDF open in the Firefox browser, follow these steps to edit it.
1) Click the T icon from the top right of the Firefox window.
2) Select the color and size for your text in the little popup. You can also change these later after adding your text.
3) Click on a spot in the PDF where you want to add the text.
4) Now, start typing.
5) Follow steps 3 and 4 to add more text.
6) If you want to edit the added text color and size, select it and then use the color and size options above. If you can’t select it, make sure the T icon is selected.
7) To delete, select the text and hit the little trash icon.
1) Make sure none of the Firefox PDF editor tools are selected. After that, select the existing text of your document.
2) Now, right-click and choose Highlight Selection.
3) Choose a highlight color using the little menu that pops out under the selected text.
1) Select the pencil icon to activate the Draw tool.
2) Now, pick a color, thickness, and opacity for your pencil.
3) Use the pencil icon over the area of the PDF where you want to draw, sign, or hide something.
Just remember this is not the most secure way to hide sensitive text from your PDF. To do that, you must use the redact tool in Preview.
1) Click the picture tool from the top of the Firefox window and select Add image.
2) Select the picture from your Finder window.
3) Once the image is inserted, use the four corners to change the image size, making it bigger or smaller.
4) Next, put the cursor over the image to drag it to the right spot in your PDF.
5) Once you have placed the image, click the Alt text option to define what this image is. You can learn more about Alt text here.
After you make all the edits, click the print or save button. This will print or download the PDF with all the edits you made above.
